Battle of the Bulge

In an attempt to seize Antwerp and cut off the Allies' railway supply route Germany attacked the Allied front lines penetrating deep into Belgium creating a "Bulge", thus the battle was named the Battle of the Bulge...


Lasting from 16 December 1944 to January 23 1945, this battle was  the final great German offensive of the war.

 

The Battle of the Bulge (also known as the Battle of Ardennes) was the largest land battle of World War II in which the U.S. participated.

 

By the end of the battle there were over 81,000 American and 100,000 German casualties.
