On the 19th of October it will be the anniversary of the First Battle of Ypres, also known as the First Battle of Flanders. The battle was undertaken in 1914 to secure the town of Ypres, in the west of Belgium in, thought between the Allied and German armies. 

The upcoming period of the 25th September to the 14th October represents the 95th anniversary of WW1's Battle of Loos. It was the first time the British army had deployed poison gas, and the first time that the “Kitcheners Army” had been used in such an enormous scale. 

Today is the 70th anniversary of the beginning of intense German waves of bomb attacks over Britain on the 7th September 1940. A key moment during the Battle of Britain. The bombing took place all over Britain but began in London for 76 consecutive nights, ending in May 1941, with over 43,000 civilians killed in the experience and more than a million houses destroyed in London alone. 

On the 17th - 25th September 1944 during WW2, Operation Market was a paratrooper assault launched to secure key bridges in the Netherlands and Germany. Still standing today as the largest airborne operation of all-time in aid of isolating Ruhr, Germany's industrial heart by cutting off access to bridges across two arms of the Rhine and bridges across the Maas. This tactic ensured a swift access point into North Germany for the allied troops.

Legendary D-Day landings bagpiper 'Piper Bill' Millin has died at the age of 88, spending the remaining moments of his life in a retirement home in Dawlish, Devon.

Tomorrow in 1942 is a significant date in the Second World War as it marks the end of the single largest combined army, navy and air force strike up to that point. The strike happened at Dieppe in France and ended after 9 hours of intense combat.
