Point du Hoc refurbishment 66th DDay Anniversary

Today is 66th anniversary of Normandy Landings with over 1200000 people taking part in this military operation over first twelve weeks "Overlord" remains still the biggest landing operation. Outside Paris and Cote d'Azure landing beeches areas remain one of the most visited places in France with pick visits taking place between June and August. What you can expect if you visit are this year?

From St Mere Eglise to Pegasus Bridge all sites expect thousands of visitors. During last six years all major landing sites has been refurbished. With the most recognisable American Military Cemetery. The latest biggest face lifts take place in Point du Hoc to safe landmark position attack on June 06 1944 by Rangers and in Crisbecq Battery (Utah Beech area).

 

Landmark stronghold which on June the 6th 1944 was a scene of remarkable bravery and from which you can clearly see cliffs climbed by Rangers is fenced and there is no chance to even get a glimps of the structure. Restoration works takes place and according to Ealaine Ganley (AP) who interviewed James Woolsey of American Monuments Agency looks like the site will remain partly closed up to October 2010. This according to our own research will affect over 450000 visitors mostly from US and UK which are due to visit the site this year. On the other side of the American landing area sits monumental Crisbecq fortification this equipped in three 210mm Skoda Guns Fort will remain closed in its main area. Fortunately for visitors there is still Good view

 

Both Sites Crisbecq and Point-du-Hoc are Hollywood Movie sets with one taking part in "The Longest Day" 1962 super production with over 40 high profile stars and another being framed during "Saving Private Ryan" filming.
