The 16th December 2012 marks the 98th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.


The Battle of the Bulge occured towards the end of World War II. It began on 16 December 1944 and ended 25 January 1945.

 

The Battle of the Bulge was a major German offensive launched through the mountain region of Wallonia. The German's aim which to divide the Allies, and split the American and British camps straight through the centre.

 

The battle was mainly fought between German and American soldiers. The American's managed to contain the offensive and later defeat the Germans.

 

The Battle of the Bulge was the bloodiest the U.S, Forces were involved in during World War II- with an estimated 90,000 American fatalities.
